Explore Mexico City with the Barnes & Thom Collins

The Barnes Foundation invites you to join Thom Collins, executive director and president of the Barnes Foundation, and Dr. Nancy Ireson, deputy director for collections and exhibitions & Gund Family Chief Curator in Mexico City. Mexico City (Ciudad de Mexico) is the capital of Mexico and one of the most important political, cultural, educational, and financial centers in North America. It's the largest city in Mexico and the second most populous city in the world, with over 20 million people.

We will explore the best of Mexico City's museums, artists and private collections. This will include Frida Kahlo Museum, Casa Estudio of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Museo Tamayo arte contemporaneo, Soumaya Museum (Carlos Slim museum), and Jumex Museum. We are excited to explore the practices of several local Mexican artists both established and emerging, including Minerva Cuevas and Betsabee Romero. We will also visit the Artist studios of Damian Ortega and Pedro Reyes. Options include artist Gabriel de la Mora's studio and collector Cesar Cervantes' home, designed by Mexican architect Luis Barragán.

When our eyes are not being immersed with powerful art, our other senses will be treated by culinary experiences in what is one of the great food cities in the country. We are excited to experience EmiliaEm is the result of the long career and vision of chef Lucho Martínez, whose cuisine focuses on produce and seasonality. Em brings to Mexico City the influence of a diverse range of techniques while using familiar Mexican ingredients in unconventional ways.  We will also visit some of Mexico City's most amazing food markets including Roma Norte and Jamaica Market where we invite you to eat like a local. Plus we will experience lunch in Bosque de Chapultepec.

The St. Regis Mexico City, our accommodation for the week, is a sanctuary in one of the most exciting destinations in the world. Soaring 31 stories above the city bustle, this hotel stands along the tree-lined Paseo de la Reforma bringing elegance into the modern era, elevating an otherwise typical hotel experience to a higher standard that reflects the evolution of this world-famous metropolis. Anticipate refined spaces with nods to the rich local culture of Mexico City, meticulously crafted and brought to life by renowned butler services. Luxuriate with restorative treatments at Remède Spa or lounge by an indoor pool with awe-inspiring views of the city skyline.

Join us and take a look at Mexico through our eyes.
